Fundamentals of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
Jon A. Jacobson. 3rd Edition, 2017

He knows what he is talking about. Jon Jacobson is one of the big names in MSK ultrasound and has contributed significantly to developing it into what it is today.

I have met Jon a few times over the years and he is a very enthusiastic and engaging speaker who imparts his knowledge very well to other clinicians. I bought the 1st edition when it came out in 2007 and at the time it was 'head and shoulders' above any other practical guidebooks available.

All these years later and now in its 3rd edition, it remains the practical work book for learning and developing your ultrasound scanning skills, whether a radiologist, sports physician, physiotherapist, sonographer or rheumatologist.

We refer to the book on our SMUG courses, and many students buy his book at the start of their learning and would agree that it provides an excellent practical reference.

The book has many clear images and anatomical diagrams and also provides an overview of the spectrum of tissue changes and trauma.

Jon has a clear writing style, which makes going through the detailed text easier. The 3rd edition also has an overview and instructions for ultrasound guided interventions and an online e-book version and video content to work with.

Buying the new edition is worth it for the updated images, more on guided interventions and online content. This paperback (including online content) is around £55. A bargain, you will refer to it for many years to come!
